BAF Soundsystem REDUX

There's ANOTHER BAF Soundsystem. What are the chances?

A while back we got some stick from some guy from some 90s (DJ? Production? Porn?) group also called BAF Soundsystem, who were a bit upset we happened to use their name. Even their logo is similar, I mean, weird. But the heat's off us for now. Looks like they've realised no-one cares.

Keep you posted. Maybe they'll become our arch nemeses. And every time we see each other the camera zooms in on our faces and we squint. yeah i can see it now it's going to be brill. Like

LOOK AT MY NEW TOY!



Oh, this is gonna be fun - it's a sampler, so we can play some cool intro tracks, and have interesting interludes. Also, we can put the WOOs from Salary on it, and finally do that song justice [Speaking of which, the new demo of Salary should be up on the blog next week, we're recording it this weekend].

Quite predictably, the first thing I did was take it apart. The SECOND thing, however, was to put on the theme tune from JAYCE AND THE WHEELED WARRIORS. Yeah!

Red Wizard Needs Food Badly

I went to see the best band in the world last night. The DULOKS had a single release party at Metro and, despite it being METRO [could actually be the worst venue in London. Maybe excepting the Dublin Castle] and despite the audience having a mean age of 103, it was WELL GOOD.



Gig's seems a weird description, as i reckon they only really played music for maybe 10 of their 30 min set. The remaining 20 was taken up with Fawlty Towers impersonations and Mira being Official Dulok Comedienne. Hecklers were humiliated, ex-boyfriends embarrassed and men with beards collected.

Man, I wish WE could have pulled drunken people up onstage and humiliate them when they shouted "You're Shit". Thing is, being four skinny indie boys, pulling drunked men onstage for humiliation could be dangerous. Especially when you're playing a warehouse in Hackney.

Actually, nowadays there's usually barriers and big scary bouncers. Like that confused one who stood RIGHT NEXT TO ME for the whole of the Chalk gig. Man, that was weird.

Also, while we're on the subject of Bands I Love, my Das Wanderlust shirt arrived today. It's yellow.

Creatures of the Night

Last night was a busy night. We travelled to an enchanted forest for a photo shoot. It was quite small, but very enchanting. Obviously, the photos we chose are so hot off the press we couldn't put them up here for fear my laptop would catch fire and explode, but here are the outtakes...:)

The Big Meeting

Hey - we met with No Pain In Pop today, and did 'the big meeting'. Actually, they were really really nice about everything, and gave us helpful pointers for the future and everything! We love Tom, he was so cool with everything, and we'll continue to support all they do. Anyway, if you don't know what we're talking about, we sent people this by way of explanation...

Hey everyone

As you may be aware, for the last 8 months we have been managed by Chris & Tom at No Pain In Pop. Our first single, Tree Friend Tree Foe was released in March on No Pain In Pop recordings.

However, we feel our time with No Pain In Pop has now come to an end. We of course wish them good luck with the rest of their roster and their upcoming releases, and hope there's no bad feelings.

FINALLY cut my hair. me and my twin cut it last night. pictures to follow. in other news i found out the mystery, untagged song in my itunes that i really liked is in fact The Fucks. who are ace, and from Camberwell? I think? all the coolest people are from Camberwell.

New X Festival

We played the Rocklands Festival at about 4am on Saturday - on a stage, thankfully, as otherwise we would've been squashed to death like an 80s football match. Really. It was busy all day, as all the booking problems meant that they were only operating on about five venues, and when Man Like Me actually destroyed the Amersham Arms with Atomic Bombs and ninjitsu, all the people tried to squash in to the remining four venues.



Anyway, I hid in Goldsmiths Tevern with 586 and Trash Fashion [which wasn't nearly as packed] and then we came and played and then everyone came on stage and we broke the drum machine cable halfway through Tree Friend and it all stopped. Here is Steve 586 dancing on stage in his very nice stripey coat.



The Batteries In My Camera girls took these. I actually met their pony. Anyway, apparently it had been that busy since the start of the day. Nice to see that, even with all the problems they had, it still managed to be a stupidly busy Camden Crawl-esque weekend...

pop has eaten itself?

Oh boy just listened to Pop Will Eat Itself. People don't think we sound like that do they? tell me it's just a couple of well-meaning journos scouring for a reference, ANY reference point to describe our amazing, unique sound in print? oh lordy lord i am melting, melting.

Pop Will Eat Itself (go check out the various fan myspace pages) are like, some Madchester survivors who stole someone's sampler, and had a diet, and, shit, i dunno- thought "hey it's the nineties now no-one's gonna notice how bad this is amongst all the shit flying around" or something. NOOOO.

Right that's it I'm inventing a genre.

Fun with Statik

"Hi kids!" said Statik, his face a picture of ecstatic celebration, "Today we're going to make some banging beats that will explode in your face. Come with me into this happy land of joy and we shall dance in the moonlight with fairies and many happy things"

And so began our studio recording session for Think Fast which young Statik is producing and will surely be available to hear in the next couple of weeks. We hope. Speaking to a label to try and sort out an actual release for it, and hey, maybe even some PR! Wicked. Keep you posted.

Can The Freedom?

We finally recorded Can The Freedom Regulate The Volume? - a really old song which we only recently started actually playing live. Anyway, everyone loved it so we recorded it in ultra-high tech studio fashion on Ian's Laptop.

But it's ok, cos *Princess Sparkle* mastered it and cleaned it up, and if you've ever heard any of his remixes, you'll know that he makes things sound SHIT HOT. Ian's currently working on a space-age video///:)
