Review from ROTA gig??

"...No ignoring the next group though, who are hugely entertaining, thanks in no small measure to their performing as though their lives depended on it. And not letting mere technicalities such as an almost empty room and chronic equipment failure stand in their way. Bolt Action Five seem to be the product of a random meeting between a group of guys who all wanted to be in a band but only found out once they were onstage that the guitarist was into metal, the keyboard player wanted to do washes of electronic noise and the singer was intent on nifty dancing and smart-pop. Wisely, the rhythm section just keep their head down and let the war of styles rage around them.

"Although I think that a lot of what makes them great this afternoon is a fundamental imbalance caused by lack of keyboards (their owner spending most of the gig disconsolately trying to get his equipment to work), the fact is that Tobias guitar histrionics lend a real hard edge to what might otherwise be a fairly routine outfit. And any band that features the dippy Bobby Gillespie-style dancing and stagecraft of bouncy singer Dan is always going to be eye catching, as one minute he is body-popping and doing The Robot and the next he is jumping up and down and belting out tunes such as Gurl Howl and Spring Heel Jack (all fittingly descriptive titles).

"BA5 are as refreshing a young band as I have seen in a long while, and I shall endeavour to see them again shortly."

HOLY SHIT. Well there you go, what we thought was a load of sizzled shizzle (see Ed's posting on 9.4.06) was actually, well, good. Cheers to Ange for telling us about this one, don't know if you loyal, ah, fans care too much about gig reviews, those of you who have been subjected to us live have all been really good eggs so I think you don't necessarily require someone else's opinion.

But we'll endeavour to put on any reviews we find out about, good OR bad! I LOVE bad reviews! You feel invincible like it can't get worse so who cares, you know you're not TOTALLY shit so once everyone thinks your doing a shit gig you're kinda bullet proof. Nothing matters.

Plus we all know we're new to this music lark so we ARE gonna be shit at some point, like at the Chapel Bar. God that was horrible. Or at the New Cross Inn; TWO 20-minute soundchecks. And we STILL sounded like flying shit burgers.

Anyway NEXT gig is HOPEFULLY on Friday at PickNMix at Dirty South in Lewisham (why are most of our gigs down south?) as long as we can afford to get down there. We're not joking. We actually have no money. After that next one at Watershed! 4th May! New songz will be premiered there so come awn down
